Will NVIDIA announce GeForce GTX 870 and 880 at Gamescom?
New rumors are showing some interesting developments regarding the upcoming GeForce GTX 870 and 880 from Nvidia. The two Maxwell Gm204 based graphics cards could make an early appearance or announcement mid-August already. There are two events rather soon where ‘something could be shown to public’. First is SIGGRAPH the second Gamescom. This event takes place in Germany between 13rd and 17th August.
Now some user at notebook-review forums posted the following:
Check the Title and comment. "New Maxwell cards incoming and then Gamescom. The screenshot shows 3DMark Firestrike in Extreme mode with a 6110 points score, roughly 20% better then a GeForce GTX 780 Ti.
Now if you blow up things a bit ... you could see an 800 series product mentions.
And then there's this from the NVIDIA UK Facebook. Now obviously we can not validate the score or anything, but this might be too much of a coincidence to suddenly appear on the web.

Funny...it has never really felt that way to me. I've never regretted ditching SLI. Sure, I lost the ability to use absolutely maxed out settings in a few games, namely SSAA, and my average framerates may have dropped in a handful of games that don't hit 60 FPS but that's just a minor thing compared with the mostly hassle-free gaming I've enjoyed from not owning SLI.
CFX/SLI is clunky IMO, few games use it fully, fewer still absolutely require it, at least not at 1920x1200, and developers, even NVIDIA themselves, do not seem as fully committed to it as I would expect for a technology that has been around for years. At least I can say I've tried both but from now on I will be sticking with the most powerful single GPU card I can afford. I do not intend upgrading to a screen above 1920x1200 any time soon anyway and that resolution is the sweet spot for me, allowing me to generally max out most if not all of my games without me having to take out a second mortgage!

Sli is great for me. The vast majority of games I play really benefit from sli. When I was on 680 sli on 1080 it allowed me to turn up the eye candy that I would of never had with just 1 680. You play a lot of indie and obscure games so sli is probably not the best option for you.

With Nvidia constantly trying to "up their game"; this is why we current green team card owners cannot get newer improved drivers. I am quite sure that when a new product is about to be released, it's 'all hands on deck'!
Assuming (for sake of argument), that this is the case, the solution would obviously be to hire some additional developers. And please, make sure they are highly qualified developers!

LOL at those saying its not worth it to upgrade their 700 series cards... no sh*t. It is hardly ever worth upgrading gpus every generation. But for those of us still rocking 580's.. it is time for an upgrade. I for one am excited for these. Obviously I would love to wait for the 880ti or whatever it will be called or even a pascal 980-1080 (whatever they end up being) but I can't wait that long unless I want to pass on playing some good looking games that are incoming in the next year.
What I will have to consider is if it makes more sense to grab a couple of 780ti's or titan blacks if the prices drop enough when the 880s come as Pascal is really where my interest lies. I think the deciding factor will be the amount of VRAM. If the 880s come in an 8gb configuration then that is what I will get, if they are still only 6gb or less then I will really have to think about it. People keep talking about expensive cards.. remember Nvidia said these were going to be "cheaper" at launch than the previous cards.. here's to hoping "cheaper" means what it usually means =)
