Will NVIDIA announce GeForce GTX 870 and 880 at Gamescom?

Will NVIDIA announce GeForce GTX 870 and 880 at Gamescom?

New rumors are showing some interesting developments regarding the upcoming GeForce GTX 870 and 880 from Nvidia. The two Maxwell Gm204 based graphics cards could make an early appearance or announcement mid-August already. There are two events rather soon  where ‘something could be shown to public’. First is SIGGRAPH the second Gamescom. This event takes place in Germany between 13rd and 17th August.

Now some user at notebook-review forums posted the following:

Check the Title and comment. "New Maxwell cards incoming and then Gamescom. The screenshot shows 3DMark Firestrike in Extreme mode with a 6110 points score, roughly 20% better then a GeForce GTX 780 Ti.

Now if you blow up things a bit ... you could see an 800 series product mentions.

And then there's this from the NVIDIA UK Facebook. Now obviously we can not validate the score or anything, but this might be too much of a coincidence to suddenly appear on the web.

I got stung when I bought a £550 GTX 780 only for a full-cream GTX 780 Ti, a card more powerful than the original GTX Titan, to be released few short months later for the same price!!!

Commonsense is telling me I should wait the next set of cards out and pick one up after 2-3 months just to be sure I'm getting the best value for money. Not that I have been disappointed by my GTX 780 but being the most expensive graphics card I've ever bought it's hard to not to feel a bit bitter about not waiting.

Tbh Darren going from 2x680's to a single 780 was a significant downgrade. I know you prefer single card setup and your at 1200p but still I wouldn't have done that but that's just me.

Meh...won't be upgrading any time soon. My 770 runs everything I play just fine and nothing on the horizon is going to need a 8xx series.

Well feel sorry for the suckers who spent £1100 on a Titan, only for the 780ti to come along at half the price.

I don't know tbh. I still got good performance on my rig. More of an itch than a necessity.

Id wait for the refresh, better performance, less teething troubles and probably slightly cheaper. By this time gm200 could be released also or near same time.
