Will NVIDIA announce GeForce GTX 870 and 880 at Gamescom?

Will NVIDIA announce GeForce GTX 870 and 880 at Gamescom?

New rumors are showing some interesting developments regarding the upcoming GeForce GTX 870 and 880 from Nvidia. The two Maxwell Gm204 based graphics cards could make an early appearance or announcement mid-August already. There are two events rather soon  where ‘something could be shown to public’. First is SIGGRAPH the second Gamescom. This event takes place in Germany between 13rd and 17th August.

Now some user at notebook-review forums posted the following:

Check the Title and comment. "New Maxwell cards incoming and then Gamescom. The screenshot shows 3DMark Firestrike in Extreme mode with a 6110 points score, roughly 20% better then a GeForce GTX 780 Ti.

Now if you blow up things a bit ... you could see an 800 series product mentions.

And then there's this from the NVIDIA UK Facebook. Now obviously we can not validate the score or anything, but this might be too much of a coincidence to suddenly appear on the web.

I just realized i have some money saved, maybe i'll sell my 280X and get a 870GTX if it turns out to be good upgrade.

We'll see soon enough.

Depends on how long one already plays on old machines ;)

Ever played FTL? Would make no sense to have a 4k monitor there, and I've already spent over 100hrs on it ;)
Yet I see the future still to be in 1440p rather than 4k, I believe they haven't even sold enough of those to let 4k get cheaper. And just in my humble opinion, 1080p is still the standard, even though it's fading quickly.

Yes, less pixels is definitely the future. Who would want more pixels anyway?

The problem is all these 144hrz 2k displays are such **** quality, you get resolution and just lose all picture quality. Only ones I've been impressed by are the high end stuff that cost a couple grand. Until that all comes down in price, the best monitors are still 60hrz and 1080p, plus at 120hrz you need a monitor with much lower latency, which you usually do not get on average, they normally only advertise peak.

120/144 Hz > IQ for gaming imo.

If you really need the IQ, you could be better of with a cheaper 120Hz and a second 60 Hz monitor with great IQ. Use the 120Hz for just gaming.

Because as you mentioned, great IQ AND a high refreshrate, will cost you an arm and a leg.

For latency it's better to check in depth reviews. ASUS/iiyama were the best at the time when I bought my 27 inch 120 Hz (there's newer monitors around now). Strangely enough the latency on the 120 Hz 27 inch Samsungs were rather high.
