The SSD market is getting saturated and fierce, bring prices down. A lovely thing of course, hence it is interesting to see a new SKU series from Western Digital called SN550.

The WD Blue NVMe SSD family allows resellers, system builders and consumers to take advantage of our reliable NVMe storage solution when creating their next PCs. Available in capacities up to 1TB in an M.2 2280 form factor, the WD Blue NVMe SSD family will give your system the boost you need.

  • Over 4x faster than our SATA SSDs with read speeds up to 2,400 MB/s for ultra-responsive PC performance
  • Boost your system’s performance with next-gen NVMe™ SSDs
  • Slimline M.2 2280 form factor
  • Western Digital designed controller and firmware for optimized performance
  • Western Digital SSD Dashboard constantly monitors the health of your SSD
  • Available in capacities from 250 GB to 1 TB with M.2 2280 form factor
  • Claimed reading speeds up to 2,400 MB/s
  • Five-year limited warranty

The SN550 starts at 60 USD for the 250 GB model, 89 USD for the 500 GB model and the 1TB model sits at 179 USD. I'm afraid that is still too high pricing for what M.2 at this level needs to be.

Update, pricing has changed  The 250 GB model is priced at USD $54, the 500 GB model $65, and the 1 TB variant $99, and that looks much better all of the sudden.
