Viking modular solutions enters SSD storage market

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 01/22/2010 12:56 PM | source: | 0 comment(s)

The SSD market is one that is growing today. SSDs were too expensive for most consumers when they first debuted, but the prices are coming down to the point now where some consumers are willing to purchase. As more companies enter the SSD market prices will be driven down by competition as well.

Viking Modular Solutions announced today that it is entering into the SSD storage marker and that it will be using SandForce processors in its SSD products. The company will be making SSDs with SCSI 6Gb/s interface for enterprise use and SSDs that use the standard 3Gb/s SATA interface for consumer and other applications.

Both of the SSD types will be 2.5-inch form factor drives. The company will also be offering smaller 1.8-inch SSDs for small and rugged applications. The SSDs will be configured using MLC and SLC NAND chips depending on the application. Viking is sampling the drives to OEMs today.
