ViewSonic adds VX2880ml with 28

ViewSonic jumps on the 4K bandwagon by releasing the VX2880ml, a 28" LCD monitor with a 4k - 3840 x 2160 resolution. This one is priced sharp though at €399. The new screen offers a 5ms response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 170/160 viewing angles and 1.07b colours apparently. The screen once again is using a TN Film panel, and with W-LED backlighting offering a standard sRGB gamut.

The screen is also advertised as being flicker free, without the use of PWM and even features a low blue light mode setting as well.

The display offers MHL enabled HDMI, DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort connectivity options.  There are 2x 2W integrated stereo speakers and a basic tilt only adjustment available from the stand.

“As 4K content continues to emerge and entertainment and other demanding visual applications become more progressive, there is a compelling need for premium UHD resolution displays,” said Claire Chuang, Product Marketing Manager at ViewSonic Europe Ltd. “To satisfy 4K content developers, graphic designers, gamers and other advanced and home entertainment applications requiring an extreme high resolution, the VX2880ml 4K resolution display delivers the highest level of details in an affordable yet stunning form factor."

The VX2880ml is now available for an RRP of £359/€399 (exc. VAT).

Not for AAA titles maybe, but there's a lot of games that's perfectly playable at 4k. Regardless, the exact same thing happened when 1200p/1080p started becoming a thing - everyone who was still primarily 1440x900 and 1280x1024 had to wait a few years after 1200p/1080p became affordable. Personally, I didn't step to up 1080p until 2009 with a dual HD4870 system.

You will need to lower some settings like with 3 monitors setup. But outside some particulary extreme case.. keeping around 60fps is not so hard. just need to optimize a bit the quality, starting by MSAA.

When you come from 2560x1440-1600 setup, the jump is not so big. something like 1080p > 1600p.

Now im not really sure i want to switch my 27" WQHD for a 28" .. Surely more for a 32"..

I think most newer cards will run games fine @ a 4k res

It just means you would have to turn all the eye-candy way down.

I think even my machine could do 4k @ 30+ fps if i turned everything to low.

Maybe some games would struggle, Watch Dogs for example but a lot of games i'm playing right now would be fine.
