US government blacklists Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi
The US government has blacklisted Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi for alleged ties to the Chinese military. Huawei was already added to this list earlier.
The move is the latest move by outgoing President Donald Trump's administration in its China policy, which is likely to increase tensions between the two superpowers. US investors are forced by the ban to relinquish their interests in Xiaomi, and eight other Chinese companies that have been blacklisted.
Xiaomi said in a statement that the company "is not owned, controlled or associated with the Chinese military". The Chinese company says it will take "appropriate" action against the sanctions, but how is unclear.
Trump has characterized his presidency, which ends Wednesday, with a strong anti-China policy. Not much is clear about how future President Joe Biden will deal with China. His transfer team did not respond to a request for comment to Reuters news agency.

As a European Xiaomi owner, will this affect future updates and access to google store apps?

I really hope you're not from America or Europe, you've been watching too much corporate news.
Edit: I'm done with this thread.

They have been in an unconventional war against the west for 30 years, we are only slowly waking up to that reality recently. Their goal is to convince the world it would be better with the brutal human rights abusing no freedom system vs USA. They need to be stopped.
They have over a hundred million wumao / bots posting propaganda on the free internet, on platforms banned over there. They are using freedom against us.
They deliberatly destroy targetted industries by operating at a loss... state owned companies can operate at loss for years until the competition is destroyed. Then they buy the failing foreign companies or take over the market and jack the prices back up to what they were before or even more. Look at British steel, EU aluminium tariffs etc...
They are a destructive parasite

Difference is that intel's ties are to their own military, not the enemies.
