Ubisoft is cutting off online gameplay for 15 games, players will no longer have access to purchased DLC

Ubisoft has stated that the online services for 15 games will be decommissioned on September 1. Users will no longer be able to play the multiplayer and co-op modes in these games, linking accounts and online features will no longer work, and, worst of all, users will lose access to DLC they purchased.

These games' online components will cease to function on PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. The remastered editions of Assassin's Creed 3 and Far Cry 3 will continue to function normally, but you will need to purchase them if you only own the original versions. While the most of these games are over a decade old, Space Junkies is a remarkable exception, having only been released three years ago. It's a multiplayer-only VR game that Ubisoft is still selling (for as much as $20) despite the fact that it will become entirely unplayable in two months.

I believe the last game I really played that had any involvement with Ubisoft was XIII. But even with that, I hear of Ubisoft a lot.

CDPR I only know exists with The Witcher.

Pretty sure only CDPR only exists cause of The Witcher, Hopefull 2077 and how that was handle isnt something they gona repeat. Was good game on PC and perfectly playable on PC, Consoles release specifically the Last gen release should never been released, And I would argue the game is unplayable on Nextgen consoles in RT mode less you like lots input lag atlest on PS5.

As for Ubisoft I had look up list game the made in past and alot the games i saw where not even made by let alone published by them to my knowledge
https://ubisoft.fandom.com/wiki/List-of-Ubisoft-Games
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List-of-Ubisoft-games#Lists-of-games

Only thing on that list i know for fact was made or published by back in the day was Rayman/Splinter Cell/Rainbow Six/Prince of persia games alot they games on that list i was like they didnt make or publish those game atlest not in the states. I guess that could be much bigger in EU.

Like said Ubisoft was never something i really payed attention too. They never made game that left lasting impression on me.

A blight regardless of which industry the company is in.

At least games from that era generally still have functional MP :p.

Ah the days when MP function was actual just severs the End users made and not ran specifily by developer/pubilsher to be shutdown at there whim, so many game have online intergated now that i dont want to see how much the game broke with out that part when they shut said severs down.

It is still possible to make products usable after the end of official support (in this case, releasing server tools), but corporations tend to self-regulate their own industries, so there are no consequences for breaking their own products on purpose.

There's been some heavy rumors lately that Ubisoft is preparing to sell. I would imagine some housekeeping would be in order if that were true. Let go of some underperforming team members, look to cancel any smaller or off track projects, wage freezes, and some back-end cost reduction like reducing IT spend on rarely used resources. If there's truth to the rumors, small "sunsets" like these for older games that probably impact very few people make sense. It's great fodder for people who want to debate principles, but 2 months from now, no one will care.

There have been parallel rumors about Sony looking to make a big purchase (aside from Bungie), which naturally led to articles a couple months ago speculating that Sony might buy Ubisoft. Obviously I have no idea if that could or would happen, but if Sony ended up with all the Ubisoft IP, they would probably treat it better from a gamer's perspective than a private equity firm.

as the years go by I see more and more reasons to just stop buying ubisoft games

I remeber no such time, then again I dont think ubisoft every really made game i cared about
ac4bf is still among my favorites, what a marvellous game it was, despite all the weird mechanics.
and I think the division series is way above what cod offers, imo the best mp shooters of the last 10 years bar only bf1
I liked wd2 too, they pushed anvil next engine to its limits and recreated SF in a way that made me come back to the game just to free roam
wildlands was a gem too with its huge, beautiful open world.
so was odyssey.

the last 2-3 years have been awful though. there is nothing remotely interesting, it's all regurgitated ideas on old engines.
