Ubisoft Enabling Fraudulent Far Cry 4 Keys For Customers Already Playing

Oh Ubisoft, arrange these things BEFORE you make any harsh decisions that directly impact your end-users, not afterwards. Ubisoft is enabling the keys again that have been disabled last week.

Ubisoft has continued to investigate the matter and has amended its decision. “After further investigation into the matter of keys that were fraudulently purchased on EA's Origin store, we are reinstating keys for consumers who already had successfully activated and started playing the games,” a representative told us via email. “Any remaining fraudulently obtained and resold keys have been deactivated.”

The publisher says it will continue to deactivate fraudulently purchased keys in the future. “We are working with EA to prevent situations like this from happening again, and we will continue to deactivate keys that are found to be fraudulently obtained and resold,” we have been told. “We strongly recommend that players purchase keys and downloadable games only from the Uplay shop or trusted retailers.”

Retailers Kinguin and G2A both issued statements on the matter in January when their customers reported that keys purchased from the sites were made inactive. You can read our previous coverage for more on this story.

This is going to annoy those who ended up having to buy the game again and start over from the beginning...

Yeah I'm a little bit upset, but fortunately my saves picked up right where I left off. Wish I would have known they were going to do this. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought AC Unity + the season and the Season pass for Far Cry 4 again. Now I have duplicates I can't do anything with.

I can't. The duplicate games are already tied to my account. I go to play AC unity this morning and saw I had 2 copies on my uplay dashboard and im like wth is going on. So I look under my account info and notice the 3 keys that were banned are now active again.

Dont worry! Send an e-mail to them, I'm sure they will refund the money or give you a gift card or whatever, like any normal and friendly company does...

Good news for those ripped off by the sites selling the keys

Ubisoft got exactly what they wanted.
Because those legitimate sites who resold stolen keys (they did not stole them themselves, nor had idea they were stolen) were giving people back money they paid.

Main points from this story:
UBI got money from thiefs, some were taken back to original owners if they managed to invalidate transaction.
Rest they keep.

3rd party stores were refunding their customers for deactivated games.
This is quite some damage.

And finally users get games activated again, so UBI looks "good" to customers.
(Customers who got refunded have back their money and have free game.)

If 3rd party stores get their money back from customers for working products, they will be seen as bad guys here.

Congratulations UBI! Congratulations EA! You made it happen!
