Ubisoft Bypasses Steam Completely with Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Ubisoft has announced Ghost Recon Breakpoint, however this round the game is entirely not going to be available on Steam. Two previous games still could be preordered through Steam, but even that is not the case anymore.
From the looks of it, Ubisoft has had enough of Steam and now moves solely towards their own Uplay and Epic game store. Companies have been complaining that Steam has become a too expensive platform with fees running towards 30 to40% of their sales. In March Epic Games announced that the collaboration with Ubisoft will continue and that several games would appear in the Epic Games store. On the Ubisoft Steam publisher page there is in any case nothing under the heading 'upcoming releases'.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint is the successor of Wildlands and the character Nomad from that game makes his return. The action game will be released on October 4 for the PC, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. The game is set on the fictional island group Auroa, where the research complex of the also fictional tech billionaire Jace Skell is located. The US Army discovers suspicious activity and sends Nomad to investigate. Nomad's mission soon turns into a survival fight when his helicopter is shot out of the sky and he is the only one left of the team. The facility appears to have been taken over by The Wolves, a group of Ghosts who act hostile.

Hardly a surprise, epic is paying them to do so. They did release a smaller game called starlink on steam though.

Annual report.
Pg 15, says it all.
They are saying that net income from digital needs to increase - as a result they need to expand their digital transactions by spreading out their exposure and push for back catalog growth; and I quote:
In keeping with previous practices, and on the strength of the acceleration in digital transformation, back catalog growth and the excellent momentum of recent releases, the Company has decided to allocate more development time to Skulls & Bones, thereby offering an even more engaging experience for players. Skull & Bones™ is now expected during the 2019-2020 financial year,
•expected digital sales of around 65% of net bookings (compared with approximately 60% previously), PRI of around 30% of net bookings (compared to over 25% previously),
•an expected back catalog at roughly 50% of net bookings (compared to over 45% previously).
So, although they pay a percentage to steam etc, these platforms have a lot of users and they are trying to reassure stakeholders and share owners of their understanding of the problem, and to push for as much inclusion in the digital transaction 'space' as possible.
