TSMC released a transcript of their quarterly results and interesting information can also be found there. It confirms that the mass production of 5nm chips is on schedule for the second quarter of 2020, and it is already working on its experimental production

TSMC is also optimistic about the progress of the 5nm process, and expects mass production to be faster and smoother than was the case with the 7nm chips introduced in 2018. The company has increased the cost and investment budget from 10 to 11 billion US dollars to 14 to 15 billion, and it is precisely because of these investments that 5nm chips should roll off the line faster than in the previous production process.

In the discussion, TSMC reports that there is mainly a market for smartphones as well as 'high performance computing', which therefore points to 5nm socs and desktop / server cpu's. For example, rumors are circulating that Apple is going to produce its new socs for the 2020 iPhones on TSMC's new 5nm process.
