Treyarch to charge for Black Ops dedicated servers

Treyarch has announced that it will charge users to create dedicated servers in the upcoming Call of Duty game, Black Ops. Servers are already available for pre-order. According to the GameServers pre-order page, players wishing to purchase a dedicated server will be required to shell out $14.95 a month for an 18 maximum player limit on ranked servers. Unranked servers will cost $0.99 a month per player up to maximum of 24 players.

There are fees for teamspeak support, and discounts for 3, 6 or 12 month prepays. User-rented servers will give their owner the ability to kick, ban, and configure at will, according to Treyarch community manager Josh Olin. Ranked servers, however, will have fewer options as these matches have criteria that can't be fiddled with by users. Call of Duty: Black Ops is set to hit store shelves on November 9 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and PC [via ggmania]
