Transcend will be attending NAB Show 2017. hroughout the exhibition, Transcend will display four main categories including their solid-state drives, SuperMLC memory solutions, Apple solutions and its new USB Type-C solutions.

Nowadays, a NAND flash can store one, two, or three bits of data per cell. They are respectively called Single-Level Cell (SLC), Multi-Level Cell (MLC), and Triple-Level Cell (TLC). Amongst the three, SLC flash has the best performance, endurance and reliability. However, the cost of SLC is also the highest compared to MLC and TLC. See Table 1. Note: P/E cycles vary by NAND flash type and manufacturing process node. Transcend has exclusively developed SuperMLC technology, offering performance almost equivalent to SLC NAND flash. Though the total capacity is reduced, Transcend’s SuperMLC NAND greatly boosts speeds, endurance and reliability at lower prices.

How does SuperMLC work?

Each MLC cell holds 2 bits of data - 00, 01, 10 or 11, while a SLC cell holds just 1 bit - 0 or 1. Between SLC and MLC NAND, Transcend’s exclusive SuperMLC technology adjusts the firmware coding and reprograms the two bits per cell of MLC into one bit per cell, just like SLC NAND.  With just one bit of data per cell, Transcend’s SuperMLC flash can speed up data access, offering sequential write speed up to twice faster than MLC flash chips. See Figure 2. In addition, SuperMLC flash is more reliable, more fault-tolerant and 10 times more durable than MLC, providing up to 30,000 Program/Erase (P/E) cycles*. SuperMLC increases the lifespan of SSD’s and memory cards, making it ideal for industrial and enterprise usages. * Varies by testing environment and methods

Solutions for Cinematographers and Videographers

Participating at NAB for the 4th time this year, Transcend will display a comprehensive and advanced product portfolio, including Apple solutions, CF cards, SD/microSD cards, flash drives, memory modules, and SSDs such as its standard 2.5”, M.2, mSATA, and half-slim SATA SSDs. Engineered for long life cycles and maximum durability, Transcend's products undergo extensive reliability and quality testing to ensure cinematographers and videographers capture their images in all types of environmental conditions.

SuperMLC Technologies

Trancend’s complete SSD product line-up will be on display, including it’s newly released SATA III SSD’s M.2 MTS 460 and MTS 860 manufactured with Transcend’s exclusive SuperMLC Technology. Transcend’s SuperMLC technology, offers performance speeds almost equivalent to SLC NAND flash. SuperMLC speeds up data access, offering sequential write speeds twice as fast as regular MLC flash chips. Increasing the lifespan of SSD’s, SuperMLC is more fault-tolerant and 10 times more durable than MLC, making it ideal for industrial and enterprise usages.

Upgrade Solutions for Mac®

As a leading player in the field of memory and storage solutions, Transcend is dedicated to providing the highest quality products that cater to distinctive cinematic applications. During the exhibition, Transcend will display a comprehensive Mac-compatible product portfolio comprised of four product categories for storage expansion. These categories include new PCIe JetDrive™ SSD Upgrade Kits for MacBook® laptops , JetDrive™ Go flash drives designed to expand iPhone®, iPad® or iPod® storage, JetDrive™ Lite expansion cards aimed at MacBook Pro® with Retina®display and MacBook Air®users, and StoreJet® for Mac series, portable hard Drives and SSDs. Transcend’s Apple solutions feature blazing-fast transfer rates and large storage space, amid to enhance speed and capacity. Moreover, all models complement Apple’s sleek style with their simple yet elegant designs.

USB Type-C Solution

Transcend will be showcasing it’s new Type-C solutions that include its new ESD220C portable SSD, StoreJet 25MC hard drive, JetFlash 850S USB drive and RDC2 smart card readers. USB Type-C is a hardware change, rather than an interface standard change (like USB 2.0 to USB 3.0). Type-C devices are easy to use due to their reversible design. It’s symmetrical oval plug will replace Type A and Type B ports, known as the rectangular plug found on flash drives that connect to cell phones. With connectors simplified to a single type, USB Type-C allows for use across multiple platforms, meaning that you only need one cable for both PC and handheld devices.

Static and Live Demonstrations

Transcend’s microSDXC UHS-I Class 3 (U3) 633x cards, will be displayed in a static demonstration with Dji’s Phantom 3 Quadcopter. Capable of reaching incredible read and write speeds of up to 95MB/s and 85MB/s, these cards can easily capture ultra-high quality 4K and 3D recording significantly reducing the time it takes to transfer videos to your computer, perfect for aerial cinematography with drones.

Aside from its extensive product arrays, Transcend will also be displaying its DrivePro Body 10 camera highlighting its infrared and non-infrared features. Attendees will have the opportunity to view these live features first hand, with the camera's wide 160° viewing angle and ƒ/2.8 aperture lens, Full HD 1080P recordings ensure all important details are clearly recorded. Infrared LEDs come on automatically in low light, allowing recording and snapshots at night.
