Toshiba Releases OCZ TL100 SATA SSD Series

Toshiba is releasing a two new budget friendly slash value-oriented SSD Solution that should deliver affordable hard drive upgrades that won’t break the bank. The OCZ TL100 SSDs will become available in 120 and 240 GB models.

Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC), a committed technology leader, today announces the launch of the OCZ TL100 SATA solid state drive (SSD) series. Designed for entry-level users with traditional hard disk drive (HDD) storage seeking an affordable upgrade solution, the Toshiba OCZ TL100 series provides the performance of SSD technology at an attractive price point.

Using TLC NAND flash memory technology, the Toshiba OCZ TL100 SATA SSD series is designed to make your hard disk drive upgrade affordable. Imagine faster boot-ups, file transfers, game level loading, and data access compared to your lag-prone mechanical hard disk drive. Suitable for either a speedy boot drive or notebook storage replacement, the TL100 series marries value and performance to bring the benefits of SSDs to more PC users than ever before.

Offering an easy and affordable way for value-oriented users to enhance their mobile or desktop systems, Toshiba OCZ TL100 SSDs improve home/office computing experiences, enabling increased system responsiveness and productivity over hard drives. With Toshiba TLC NAND flash memory under the hood, the TL100 series prioritizes both quality and affordability delivering the reliable system storage end users can rely on.

The TL100 series is rated for sequential read/write speeds of up to 550 MB/s and 530 MB/s, and random read/write performance of up to 85,000 and 80,000 4KiB input/output operations per second (IOPS), all while providing low power consuming storage that translates into a long battery life for on-the-go users.

“The Toshiba OCZ TL100 SATA SSD series demonstrates that “value” doesn’t have to mean end-users need to sacrifice performance or quality,” said Alex Mei, VP of Marketing, Consumer SSDs & Storage Outbound Marketing at Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. “As an affordable upgrade option for home and office users, the TL100 series makes SSD performance and responsiveness more accessible to a wider audience.”

The OCZ TL100 SATA SSD series will be available in 120GB to 240GB capacities and will be backed by a 3-year Advanced Warranty Program, created to provide reliable customer service and mitigates the frustration surrounding warranty and support claims.

Unfortunately the press release did not hold any pricing information. For more information, visit the product page here.

Update, the EU pricing is 45 EURO for the 120GB model and 65 EURO for the 240GB model (26 cents/GB). That is an MSRP, so you can expect the prices to be a notch lower on etail.

Good idea releasing a drive like this in just 120 and 240 capacities. With those prices the TLC performance will be rock bottom and really should just be purchased for users going from HDD to SSD. Even a slower TLC drive will show the access time and power saving benefits of any SSD.

As usual, OCZ/Toshiba doesn't seem aware of their own release. No mention as of this moment on their website a couple hours later. Do they not have this stuff timed and aligned?
