Toshiba announced a 3.5-inch HDD dubbed DT02 7200rpm 2TB, it uses a 256MB cache and SMR technology.

It is a variation model of the DT02 series for desktop PCs and external HDDs, and achieves a maximum transfer speed of 210MB / sec with a high-speed rotation of 7,200rpm and a large capacity cache of 256MB. It is improved by about 19% from the conventional model.

Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) technology has enabled HDD manufacturers, such as Toshiba, to increase the capacity of their spinning platter drives beyond that of existing approaches.

SMR technology is recognized as having an impact on write-speeds in drives where this technology is used, especially in the case of continuous random writing. For this reason, Toshiba products are carefully tailored to specific workloads and use cases. For example, in use cases such as network-attached storage (NAS), where continuous random writing regularly occurs. The interface is SATA3.0 (6Gbps), the format is 512e, and the MTTF / MTBF (AFR) is 600,000 hours (0.67%). It consumes 2.92W and weighs up to 450g.  Sample shipments will start from this month.
