Threadripper 3000 CPUs Not Likely Compatible with X399 motherboards
Yuri Bubily, aka 1usmus from the DRAM Calculator (and Guru3D forums user) spilled some beans on X399 compatibility with Threadripper 3000, according to his words, there's won't be any. And that would fall in place with the rumored chipsets like TRX40 and TRX80 we've heard about.
Yuri mentions very little about Threadripper 3000 really, as all information is disclosed, however, he does quite specifically hint that Zen2 architecture based Threadrippers processors require a redesigned pin layout. This is mainly due to the fact that the processors have a new single memory controller as well as added pins for PCIe 4.0.
1usmus - Hey. Unfortunately there is not very good news, AMD has changed its mind about making X399 compatible with the new generation. For this reason, HEDT disappeared from all calendars and the release of these processors was forced to postpone.
Since the new processor has a new memory controller and he in a single copy (instead of two as before) had to seriously change the pins. Also, the new PCI Gen 4 standard and new power pins made a special contribution. TRX40 and TRX80 are a new generation and a new architecture. Nothing to do with the past generation.
At the moment, all information is classified and I do not have access to it
We already mentioned we expect to see new motherboards and chipsets for Threadripper. Three model names have surfaced named TRX40, WRX80 and TRX80. Threadripper 3000 remains to be massively interesting, but with up to 16 cores on Ryzen 3950X, who is actually going to go for Threadripper. Well, that would be the folks on a workstation, developers, content creators prosumers and render farms. Earlier USB.org posted AMD 2019 Premium chipsets and there has been a recent update: Model Number: Superset, X570, TRX40, WRX80, TRX80.
TRX 40 and TRX80 might be more consumer and workstation oriented with perhaps some differentiation on memory channels (4-channels /8-channels). The massive mega cores (hey 64c/128t is possible) in all likelihood is intended for the WRX80, which would be a kind of Epyc.

I will remain skeptical, frankly if epic 2 cpus are drop in to older sp3 boards, there is little reason for amd to prevent compatibility.
limiting the boards available while they are still in the process of gaining market-share in the hedt space, seems like a bad move.

Each time Intel does something right, this site goes "But AMD has ". Then, each time AMD does a bad thing or has a mishaps, this site goes "Well, you know, it's not that bad" (wording will vary). You cannot deny this.

Suddenly my Asrock x399 pro got worthless. I hoped to upgrade my 1950x with gen 3 threadripper
Hopfully the new MB's is worth the new upgrades
