Nvidia Is Supposedly Preparing A New RTX 3050 8GB With A 117W TDP

NVIDIA may be working on a new variant of its entry-level RTX 3050 graphics card., based on a new GPU SKU, the GA107.

We expected NVIDIA would eventually provide RTX 3050 boards based on the smaller "GA107" processor, and they did. According to Igor's Lab, RTX 3050 cards based on GA107 have a board power of 115 W, around 11% less than GA106 cards (130 W). Technically, the two cards are identical. 2560 CUDA cores, 20 streaming multiprocessors, 80 TENSOR cores, and 20 RT cores, with a 128-bit wide GDDR6 memory interface providing 8 GB of memory at 14 Gbps (224 GB/s bandwidth). In theory, any cooling solution intended for the launch-day RTX 3050 should function flawlessly with GA107-based cards.

Gone are the days of low-midrange cards running off the 75W of the PCIe slot...

Yeah, wasn't the last one the 7600. It had the same game capability as the 6800 but just used the pci-e power.

Nvidia Needs to drop tensor cores on consumer gpus before they ever become affordable again, currently their gpu dies are all too big and complex so even mining aside gpus will forever be more expensive. AMD currently has an overall better gpu for easier cheaper production.

I (barely) pay attention to these release notifications since none of them can be purchased unless I'm willing to bend over. Hopefully I will be able to buy a new upgrade at honest prices before I pass on. My 1080 SC won't last forever.

No idea mate. I've got a pair of 7570s or something that effect that will run on PCIe power only, but those are ancient.

Getting less for more is what happens when monopolies rule the roost.
