Let's be honest here when was the last time you bought a music CD? It looks like the CD as we all know it is going to way of the dodo, or cassette (you remember what a cassette tape is don't you?). In the US The nation’s largest consumer electronics retailer will no longer be selling CDs, Best buy is removing them from the stores.

It makes sense as the shift towards streaming, digital downloads and everything else takes place online these days. According to Billboard, Best Buy told suppliers that it will pull CDs on July 1.

"At one point, Best Buy was the most powerful music merchandiser in the U.S., but nowadays it's a shadow of its former self, with a reduced and shoddy offering of CDs," Billboard reported. "Sources suggest that the company's CD business is nowadays only generating about $40 million annually."

People are still listening to music, but with digital subscriptions like Spotify, Pandora and Apple Music on top of digital sales, the internet is the way of the future. Target may also join the anti-CD movement. It’s issued an ultimatum to music suppliers which will force them to take on all inventory risks for unsold discs. Effective April or May Target stores will only pay for discs at the point where they’re scanned for sale to customers.

Best Buy will keep selling vinyl, but as CD sales continue to fall, it decided to use the floor space for other products.
