The Coalitions GDC 2021 Unreal Engine 5 Tech Demo
The Coalition presented Alpha Point, a new Unreal Engine 5 tech demo, at GDC 2021 in San Francisco. This morning, Epic Games released the full version of their GDC presentation in which they discuss the technology behind The Coalition.
Alpha Point uses both Nanite and Lumen, the main new tech features that Unreal Engine 5 brought to the table. Moreover, it uses new custom assets that were made specifically for this tech demo. As The Coalition states, it created 90% of the assets for this demo. The other 10% comes from Quixel’s Megascans. Now as the team has noted, this tech demo does not represent any of its games that are currently in development. Still, it can give you an idea of what it has managed to achieve so far with this new engine. The Alpha Point tech demo was running on Xbox Series X, and is not representative of final framerate targets or final input/output resolutions.

The important factor is whether that eyecandy works on mainstream hardware. UE has excellent performance for the level of detail you get.

Just a quick reminder that the infiltrator demo is 8 years old at this point if anyone wants an idea of how quickly we'll actually see visuals like this in-game. IE UE6 probably.

Bad ass! I'm loving the movement of technology and it's ability to usher in a new era of development and accessibility to all.
These rendering engines being free is an amazing way to allow anyone to get their hands on it all.
I'm just getting back into unreal engine and I'm blown away at how easily accessible feature sets and options are in engine.
And having the hardware to push it all is just the icing on my cake.
"Cake for everyone!!!!"
