Terramaster NAS servers also under DeadBolt attack (firmware update released)

Terramaster NAS servers also under DeadBolt attack (firmware update released)

Following the initial targeting of Qnap's NAS systems by DeadBolt ransomware in January, and Asustor's systems two weeks ago in reports of TerraMaster users having data on their NAS devices encrypted following an assault are now piling up.

Commonalities that show the site of the attack and possible remedies in the TerraMaster forum, where more and more impacted people have been complaining since yesterday. However, like with QNAP and Asustor, it is only known that the NAS systems provide Internet connection in some way.  TerraMaster has officially verified that the new firmware 4.2.30 (or newer) is designed to guard against the ransomware DeadBolt and, as a result, to encrypt NAS data in the case of an attack. If your NAS is already encrypted, your only alternatives are to pay the ransom or entirely reinstall TOS, which would result in the loss of all data on the disks and the necessity to restore a backup, if one exists.

Firmware 4.2.30 (info here)

  • Fixed a security vulnerability related to the Deadbolt ransomware attack.
  • Optimized fan control during HDD hibernation.
