Synology Adds Affordable DiskStation DS115j NAS

Synology today launched the 100 EURO DiskStation DS115j, a compact, energy-saving, and quiet 1-bay NAS server dedicated to serving as your private cloud and smart network video recorder. "With DS115j, home users can now enjoy the rich data sharing and multimedia streaming features offered by Synology at an entry-level price point," said Nicole Lin, product manager of Synology Inc.

t delivers read speeds at 103 MB/sec in a Windows environment, a 28% increase compared to its predecessor. With the built-in Floating-Point Unit (FPU) CPU, DS115j enhances the performance of multimedia applications, such as speeding up thumbnail generation of photos, and thus ensures optimal multimedia experiences. DS115j comes at a budget-friendly price tag, but makes no compromise in its performance.

Tailor-made for the home environment, DS115j only consumes 3.85 watts when hard drives enter hibernation mode, and below 13 watts under full operation. Furthermore, its noise dampening design makes it very quiet compared to PC counterparts, minimizing the noise level to 18.1 dB(A) only. DS115j also serves as a full-featured network video recorder to leverage Synology Surveillance Station. DS115j comes with 2 free IP camera licenses and supports up to 5 cameras, making it an ideal surveillance solution for homes and SOHOs.

DS115j runs on DiskStation Manager (DSM) 5.0, an intuitive operating system that provides a host of applications to bring better productivity at work and offer a new level of multimedia experience. Synology was voted as "PCMag Business Choice Award 2013 winner" and received the highest rating in every element of the survey, including reliability, overall satisfaction, value, and likelihood to recommend.
