Study reveals Cryptocurrency mining energy consumption in China alone will be higher than Italy in three years

Study reveals Cryptocurrency mining energy consumption in China alone will be higher than Italy in three years

80% of the world's crypto mining happens in China. Electricity consumption from China's Bitcoin mining operations will pass Italy's electricity consumption by 2024. That's what scientists say in Nature. "Without timely intervention, the climate efforts that the country did will be nullified," they say.

According to the researchers, this is due to the cheap electricity in the country and the relatively easy access to mining parts from manufacturers reports tweakers.net Bitcoin is using the most energy per transaction and coin mined, other cryptos are to follow suit. Four out of ten Chinese miners would use electricity produced from coal, the remaining 60 percent run on renewable energy. Due to the large share of coal-based energy consumption, the researchers argue that China's Bitcoin mining activities could nullify the climate efforts the country has already made. The researchers also expect that Chinese mining activities will only increase.

“Without political intervention, the annual energy consumption of China's Bitcoin mining activities will reach 297 terawatt-hours by 2024

As a comparison, we are based in the Netherlands, we as a country currently use 107 THh per year.

I've blocked this Fox guy in the previous bitcoin thread, as he has shown that he has absolutely no idea of what he's talking about AND after my sincere attempt at giving some explanation and linking to bitcoin developers and long time investors, who are excellent people to follow if someone is actually interested in understanding Bitcoin, his reply included "This all looks like DPRK propaganda"... at which point it was clear that there's no point in interacting with this person.
Tho i still click on "Show Ignored Content" sometimes to see what the hell are people replying to, I'll be avoiding that from now on.

On my end... few times I started what's basically "Is There Something Wrong With You" post, but always stopped short of posting it due to Formosa's Law.

And if someone is truly troubled telling him to "just chill and relax" because he's not a fukin Buddha with some immense reputation and legacy to protect, will proly achieve less than desired effect.
Which is why I took more straightforward approach and simply told him few times to stop posting about things he's clueless about - zero effect :)

his reply included "This all looks like DPRK propaganda".

Haha I missed this :D
He's really punching up. Ohh the intellectual bravery needed to raise the concern about something so... controversial as DPRK.
Also notice that 'propaganda' is always done by THEM to THEM. It's never US.

He's being political, saying a bunch of bs to cover up the fact hes got no idea but apealling to the folks who hate crypto to stay on their good side.

That's too 6D for me. I play only normal chess. But I don't think he's overly political, or more eager to make it visible than others.
OK that's it for me. It's not cool to gang up on ppl.

See this is what's infuriating with you: You're writing essays and you can't spare a single sentence to explain your god damn point. HOW IS THIS A FALSE STATEMENT?
You boa constrictor you./
What do you need explained on difficulty adjustment. And what do you need explained on fact that your calculator has enough computational power to get you hash result for PoW in real time thanks to it?
You can always return difficulty back to days when entire "mining network" had 5 dudes. And they still managed to confirm transaction (mine block) every 10 minutes.

People here who claim to be crypto experts should have no need to ask for explanation of such simple concept. Yet, not even inexperienced people feel need to ask.
Maybe because it takes few seconds to google it or 5 minutes to watch YT video.
(Even wiki needs just 1st two sentences to sufficiently explain it.)

You may not like it, but if everyone in network agreed on using 1000 times less computational power, block would be still mined in same amount of time (after difficulty adjustment). And only thing which would change would be power draw.

Do you remember that graph which show that it is not expected that btc will eat much energy in future? How do you think it will happen. And how does that fit your actual view of difficulty and PoW?
Yes, it is not because we will become 1000 times more power efficient on HW level. It is because fewer and less computationally strong devices will be used. And one block will still be mined every 10 minutes. (Unless btc changes to mine one block per different time interval.)

And as for your other posts above. I have no problem with ctypto/blockchain/... I value the value. I do not value the waste. Yet price tags on crypto currencies show that people did not change/learn from times of Tulip Mania.
