Steam gives users data from other people by accident

In the forums people have been filing complains about Steam logins, also Steam gives users data from other people by accident. Lots of clients that use the game-service can see part of credit card info from other people.



On social networks like Reddit and Twitter many reports have been noted. The data seems to be from random users and show personal data including payment history. According to the Verge other things are going wrong as well as with languages and spontaneous log-outs.

In a message on Steam's forums, a moderator earlier today said, "Steam is not hacked," and that "credit card info and phone numbers are, as required by law, censored and not visible to users."

The Steam Store was offline Friday evening which indicated that they are working on the problem. Valve by now has conformed to solved the problem, and this was related to a caching issue.

"Steam is back up and running without any known issues," a company spokesperson said. The company is blaming a "configuration change" earlier today that randomly let some Steam users view others' account pages, but it says the window was no longer than one hour. "We believe no unauthorized actions were allowed on accounts beyond the viewing of cached page information and no additional action is required by users," they added.
