Steam Controller Revealed
Rather than traditional thumbsticks, the new Steam controller features dual clickable trackpads which Steam says will offer more precise inputs than current gamepads.
Force feedback is taken a step further also; rather than use a spinning weight to produce a rumble effect, the new Steam Controller uses high frequency dual linear resonant actuators to deliver a wide range of feedback which can, if needed, also function as speakers.
The screen in the centre of the device is a high resolution touch screen. This opens up a whole range of possibilities when it comes to interactivity -- developers may choose to utilise the screen to display custom buttons and controls.
Steam is looking to the community to help in designing the final product and will be sending out beta units, minus the touchscreen and wireless connectivity to start with.
