Star Citizen crowdfunding nears $35 million

Star Citizen continues to break all records for crowdfunding, the upcoming space sim has roughly hit the $35 million mark. Interestingly, given that the game has around 330,000 backers, this means the actual amount committed per backer is over $100, far more than what would normally be spent on a AAA game.

Star Citizen is rolled out in a modular fashion, the hangar module is already completed and a dogfighting module will be added soon. After that you can expect a social module, a persistent universe and so on.

"Wow! When I started this journey I would have never guessed that we would have come so far in such a short time. $35M in funds raised to build Star Citizen before the end 2013 it truly a monumental achievement! You’re not just re-writing the rules of how games are made and funded but you’re showing the power that a committed community has to achieve a vision that so many people said was no longer relevant. You’ve broken every record there is in crowd funding – and not just for games – for any type of project!

Star Citizen will eventually be a highly detailed, vast space trading game with combat and socialising elements, and even talk of incorporating citizenship rules such as paying tax.

Become Pirate, don't pay tax.

(A lot of this stuff seems to be being asked for by a sect of people I like to call a "Bunch of anal retentive ********")

Well of course and it will be interesting to see the ratio between the two but only if the game has 0 preference/bias as to which side each player has to take at any point of time.

Still though, politics always find a way in into every crack of our society which is the point I was making.

Economics? How about replacing it with Ethics for once. Monkey see monkey do!

there are no ethics in anarchy.

Also, i'm really excited for this game and have reserved a package already. so i'm looking forward to it.

I did see a couple things which i thought were weird though. The "enemy" fighters had Ailerons. I guess maybe that's for planetary maneuvering, maybe you can fly to a planet and maybe land on one. But in space there's no need, no air.
Also the enemy fighters were aerodynamic, again, no air, not a problem.
Well, every space shooter/strategy/sim games have sounds.
You're not going to nitpick that? =b

Economics can be modelled ingame. The Ethics part is up to the players. Who by and large are a pretty good cross section of general society.

If the game didn't have politics or any normal rivalry/conflict it wouldn't be much fun. Too many carebears and anal retentives...

Oh and I'm yet to see much in the way of Ethics being put to good use IRL let alone in games ;)

Real life should have nothing to do with video games. Why the hell would I want to pay taxes in a video game?
