Samsung launches Ultra HD FreeSync Monitors

Samsung launches Ultra HD FreeSync Monitors

Samsung intros the U24E590D and U28E590D, UHD monitors with AMD's FreeSync technology (PLS and TN). These UHD monitors offer unprecedented picture quality for gaming, entertainment and multi-tasking activities.

The U24E590D and U28E590D are the first UHD Samsung monitors with AMD FreeSync capabilities. FreeSync synchronizes the monitors' refresh rates to eliminate large jumps in frame time for noticeably smoother multimedia use. The integration of AMD FreeSync is especially beneficial for gamers, who will notice an immediate increase in responsiveness and the elimination of screen tearing and shuttering.

Flawless Display and Multimedia Experience
The U24E590D and U28E590D's UHD display (3840x2160) offers users discernably sharper text, images and video content. Previously uncaptured content and a brightness level of 370cd/m2 that further enhances the visual experience with incredibly rich and vibrant colors, all on a flicker-free screen. Both monitors also use HDMI 2.0, which supports a 60 Hz frequency to view content smoothly, while the 28" has a 1ms response time.

With Samsung's Game Mode technology, the visual experience is intensified by rapid response to changing colors and brightness, which enables users to see more vivid images even in darker scenes. The U28E590D monitor also supports 1 billion unique colors which is 64 times greater than the conventional monitor.

Enhanced Productivity, Connectivity and Usability
Both monitors offer powerful multi-tasking tools; with Picture-in-Picture technology, users can watch their favorite movie in one window while working on a spreadsheet in another and the Picture-by-Picture feature allows users to connect two PCs to the same monitor. Additionally, DP and HDMI ports means that there are no limits in connectivity as two different devices can be synced to the same monitor.

The crystal-like clarity of the UHD display reduces strain on the eyes, allowing users to play and work more efficiently on their screen for extended periods of time.

28" monitor is a TN panel.

23.5" monitor is too small.

Nope and nope.

First, great price on your end Samsung $400 is not bad for 4K Freesync & Two, 23.5" 4K is great due of the high PPI. Samsung made this monitor for Windows 10 & not for Windows 8.1 due of the small text & icons. Windows 10 fix those issue now, that why Samsung is releasing it on Windows 10 Launch area.

HDMI 2.0 Freesync monitors seem ironic.

no need, AMD gpU's support allready SST for 60hz 4K and previously was use MST ( multi stream ) for 60hz too. ( in addition Tiled display block are a standard made by AMD )

Samsung's 2015 high end models seem to be VA panels, that I like :). They should add freesync to all of these. I suspect that next years models will probably be all freesync.

I got this from the manual (can't post links yet):

Synchronization

Horizontal Frequency
30 – 135 kHz (DisplayPort)
30 – 90 kHz (HDMI1)
30 – 135 kHz (HDMI2)

Vertical Frequency
56 – 75 Hz (DisplayPort)
24 – 75 Hz (HDMI1/HDMI2)

Resolution Optimum Resolution
3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz (DisplayPort)
3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz (HDMI1)
3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz (HDMI2)

Maximum Resolution
3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz (DisplayPort)
3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz (HDMI1)
3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz (HDMI2)

One question...this means that with Displayport you will only get "Adaptative Sync" between 56Hz and 60Hz? (At 4k@60Hz resolution).

Or Vertical Sync has nothing to do with that?

I would like to know the supported Free Sync range for this monitor.

Thanks!

Nope and nope.

If you have a good monitor now, id wait untill O-Led Monitors come out instead.

- Proper Blacks
- DisplayPort 1.3
- Adaptive Sync

By the time they do come out NVIDIA has most likely migrated to Adaptive Sync aswell, seeing it was proven G-Sync can work without a Module.
