SSDs with series SanForce SF3000 controller delayed
SandForce previously owned by LSI and now Seagate seems to have big problems. Their SandForce SF3000 controller has been announced ever since 2013, yet it is delayed once more, now to the first half of 2015. The initial plan was to get this product out as we speak already.
There isn't much known on what exactly is going on but sources within the component industry state that there are issues with the PCI-E based end products that make use of that SF-3000 series controller. It is unknown if it is a chip design issue or something that can be fixed on the firmware side of things. And the PCI-E based SSDs are a huge focus for the manufacturer as by using that bus, they can maximize the potential of the series 3000 controllers.
The SF3000 should be a significant step forwards in the SSD industry when it comes to performance, the controller is optimized for a bandwidth equal toi PCIE 2.0 4.x
By using the PCIe bus SandForce can achieve sequential read and write performance of up-to 1800 MB/sec whilst the IOPS performance would be 150K for reads and 81K for writes.

WD drives have problems with excessive head parking hence the fail prob with green/blue, the red ones have less problem with it.
hitachi were always good performer but "loud".
i liked the samsungs for very good speed, but still being silent.

Never had any issues with their Blacks.
That being said, I tend to always get Seagate, WD Black or Hitachi when repair PC's for people.
Every time a HDD breaks it's either:
- Really really OLD
- It's a WD Blue/Green
- Another brand
If anyone whines about HDD's dying in the first few weeks:
- Bad maintenance
- It was faulty to begin with and if it was an important drive you deserve to be slapped in the face to begin with for not TESTING it
Hmm I have 2 WD green drives inside Hard drive enclosures and never had a problem with any of them.
Hmm. Maybe this controller has some bugs in it that needs to be worked out.

I have swore by seagate for 15+ years now and of all the seagate HDD i had 1 out right failed and no longer works and that was 3 years after it out of it 5 year warranty.
Similar case here - a couple of years after the guarantee ended the drive failed(it was the motor, which acted strangely, so I managed to copy about 90% of the data on it). On the opposite a 10 year old Hitachi still works like a charm
