SSD pricing to drop 20-30 percent this year says Transcend

Transcend chairman Peter Shu predicts sales of SSDs will continue to boom this year thanks to declining NAND flash memory prices. After falling 30 percent in 2013, pricing of SSDs is expected to decline another 20 to 30 percent this year. Prices of SSDs are expected to decline another 20-30% in 2014 after falling 30% in the previous year, Shu observed, adding that demand for 256GB SSDs will surge if their average price falls to below US$100.

Prices of SSDs are expected to decline another 20-30% in 2014 after falling 30% in the previous year, Shu observed, adding that demand for 256GB SSDs will surge if their average price falls to below US$100.

Transcend has ramped up its SSD shipments to 100,000 units a month, with industrial and consumer models each accounting for 50% of total shipments, Shu said.

Transcend will also see its share in the global flash memory card and flash drive segments continue to expand in 2014 as a number of small-scale operators have withdrawn from the market, Shu noted.

DRAM and NAND flash prices will continue to fall at a slow pace quarter on quarter in 2014 due to oversupply, Shu commented.

I'll happily shell out for a Vector 150 or better when I build my rig this summer. Bring on the speed!

Yeah Crucial M550 looks really cheap ~260€ or Samsung Evo 500gb for ~210€, I remember when 512gb was +500€ not so long ago.

Hell the 840 EVO 1TB is under $500 right now. Would love to pick one of those up for four bills.

Guess I will be getting two 256 or 500GB SSD's and going for raid0 again.

What a waste of money. It's been proven that doing a Raid-0 on SSD drives barely gives any benefits.
