Sony PlayStation 4 to be shown off on February 20
A lot of heat, buzz and gossip is floating at the digital Internet waves, but it seems pretty certain that Sony is to announce (not launch) the Playstation 4 on February 20. Sony has shown a "See the future" video on their PlayStation Twitter page that teases a new console. The new PlayStation will be x86-based and will use an 1.6 Ghz eight-core AMD Jaguar based SoC with custom AMD Radeon HD graphics solution. The new console is anticipated to be capable of running games in stereoscopic 3D mode in 1920 x 1080 and upscale video content to 4K-class resolutions (3840 x 2160).
"We believe the specs revealed by Digital Foundry on Eurogamer last month are accurate," says Tom Bramwell, Eurogamer's editor. "Eight-core AMD processor at 1.6GHz, Radeon HD hardware with 18 Compute cores, a custom GPU Compute module for handling things like physics, and 4GB DDR5, with 512MB reserved for the OS. Beyond that I'm not sure, but I believe DualShock will return ..."
I've heard interesting things about the joypad. Sony was definitely working on a prototype extension of its iconic controller, possibly featuring either a touchpad between the two analogue sticks, or its own screen – like the Wii U's GamePad. It could be though, that gamers will get the choice to use the Vita as a controller, doing away with the need to manufacture another game pad with a display. Whatever, it will almost certainly have all the extra stuff – rumble (left off the original PS3 controllers), motion sensors, etc.
The screen output wise there have been mutterings of support for the incoming ultra high definition 4K sets. Indeed, Sony showed off 4K televisions and camcorders at the CES event in January, and would surely want PS4 to act as an early cheerleader for the tech, just as PS3 did with Blu-ray.
The games: This is another crucial factor, of course. Sony still commands a decent roster of exclusives and many will be expecting at least one of Gran Turismo 6, Uncharted 4 or Killzone 4 (even though, when PS3 arrived, it only really had Ridge Racer 7 and Resistance: Fall of Man as tent pole titles). The next step would be to work on some timed exclusives – perhaps the next Assassin's Creed, maybe GTA V? Possibly Star Wars 1313 or enhanced versions of Ubisoft's much-heralded Watchdogs or Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. Microsoft and Sony must be fighting for this stuff.

GDDR5, which has been around FOREVER.
Sony are cheap-ass nutcases that's why. They used 256MB of XDR RAM in the PS3 instead of 1GB+ of DDR2 which would have cost the same... or GDDR3 like the Crapbox 360 used. Even Microshaft stinged on the RAM severely though, the 360 only had 512MB of GDDR3 for the entire system. Guess why textures in games have been absolute trash for the past eternity... console ports. The occasional company would promise "ultra resolution" graphics packs for the PC counterparts which would arrive months later and be half-assed compared to what they should have been.
I can't stand Sony, they're like the Japanese Apple, form over function, high price regardless of performance. I bought a PS3 for exclusives but I'll never make that mistake again.
I had a bad time even playing those games, it's hard to get over the crap 960x540-1280x720 graphics which has absolutely no filtering, textures which looked like something from the 90s, and lagged like there was no tomorrow. I don't play 4 meters away on a TV, I play on my monitor right in front of it, I see all the horrible, jagged, pixelated details. Games capped at 30fps (and sometimes 20fps) were often described by Sony reps as "ultra smooth".

I'll never buy a console but the only reason I care is cause every time new consoles come out, the PC gets treated like an unwanted child for a few years until the console hardware is outdated. I'm hoping this time around with Steam it'll be different, that said however I wouldn't be surprised if Rockstar goes "we have GTA 5 on the PS3, 360, PS4 and Xbox 3... that is enough platforms, lets leave out the PC and blame Piracy".
I don't want that to happen because my interest in gaming has been dwindling over the years as it is thanx to the 360 stealing all the PC franchises and dumbing them down. I mean the only thing that has kept me going is all the indie titles and mods and 2012 was basically Dayz for me and that was it.
We have started to this this difficulty backlash though to be fair, where people are bored of games being too easy and being treated like morons. If a game isn't on an open platform like Windows and doesn't have mod support or an SDK then I lose interest. Normally a game has flaws that these fix or generally just adds new content. If that is gone then what is point? I mean for some reason developers can never make fun online modes, you have to wait for modders to do that. Why BF3 sucked so much, all the maps were boring, however imagine if it support custom maps, we've have so many amazing maps based on the destruction game, just like the old glassfloor maps in CS.

I don't see how 1.6 GHz even if its 8-core can be the future. You need speed / core and multi-core that is good ! The raw performance will be compared with a medium priced PC or even better but it has to last for a few years ! If the programmers and coders don't put the 8-core at good work and only 4 of 8 cores will be used or the game is a port everything will be the same lower versions in quality of PC games

These consoles are just scarred to say we want to be GAMING PCs on budget
