Sharp released its first 8k-tv dubbed the LV-85001, this is a world-wide exclusive for Sharp being the first to offer a Ultra HDTV at such an incredibly high resolution. The screen is 85" and has a 7640x4320 pixels resolution.

At 7640x4320 / 85-inches that would mean an incredible 104 pixels per inch, a fourfold of 4K Ultra HDTVs and that's 16x more pixels opposed to a Full HD screen. The Brightness levels are set at 1000 cd/m2.

To drive such a resolution four HDMI cables are used, in the future there of course will be a solution that can manage that resolution with one cable. To date it is unknown if manufacturers are developing 8k-televisions for home usage, it really is overkill in a living room, as such manufacturers focus more on easier to implement features such as better pixels and HDR.

The photos we think are of the prototype, the screen will be available for 16m Yuan, which is roughly 120K euro and yes that is obviously intended for industry and corporate usage.
