Certain ASUS Z690 and B660 motherboards, as well as the soon-to-be-released B660, are not compatible with Noctua coolers, such as the NH-D15, NH-U12S, and NH-U12A, as can be seen in the compatibility list that Noctua provided on its website.

So if you plan to use your Noctua cooler, please be aware of this. The primary explanation given is that the height of the heatsink that covers the VRMs is incompatible with the cooler and motherboard combination due to their different mechanical designs. The entire ROG STRIX Z690 series from ASUS is affected by this issue, and there are also a few B660 motherboards indicated in the list of affected Z690 motherboards from other manufacturers. Another motherboard under consideration is ASUS's ProART Z690 Creator, while the Z690-G Gaming WIFI motherboard is incompatible because the cooler overhangs the top PCIe x16 slot, preventing users from using the Gen 5 slot on the motherboard. As a result, users will be restricted to using the second or third slots, which are x8 or x4 electrically and only support Gen 4 lanes.

The rest of the LGA 1700 cooling portfolio from Noctua is fully compatible with boards from Gigabyte, MSI, ASRock, and BIOSTAR.
