Seagate launches 8TB Archive HDD at 250 EURO
Last week we reported that Seagate was launching a 6TB HDD, this week we can report that they have released an 8TB HDD for just 250 EURO. These drives are intended for NAS storage and are not the fastest platters spinning at 5900 RPM. However, the new models hold 8TB of data.
The Seagate Archive series HDDs of 8TB have a SATA 6Gbps interface. At the website these puppies are listed have an idle power consumption of 5W with an average operating power of 7.5W.
- Form factor: 3.5"
- RPM: 5900rpm
- Cache: 128MB
- power: 7.5W (functional), 5W (idle)
- Warranty 3 years
Standby power consumption of less than 1W. The specification sheet reveals it's capable of throughput speeds of up to 190MB/s. Over at Geizhals (EU price comparison engine) the HDDs are listed starting 247 EURO.

Technically yes you can, but the RPM's top off at 5900. It's great for storage, just make sure your OS is on a faster HD or SSD.

Great for storage is not a sentence I would ever say when talking about seagate. I have had triple the amount of seagates fail on me versus ANY other hard drive manufacturer. Out of the current brands hitachi is the most reliable in my experience followed by western digital then toshiba and seagate bringing up the rear as the number 1 most defective hard drive producer on earth.
Congrats if you never had a seagate fail on you, you got really lucky.

yes you can but it will bring you back few year ago... when you turn the computer on and then go to take a coffee.
in RAID mode with a good controler (no not with chipset integrated one lol) or in a Nas this problem is totaly acceptable => this is why it is purposed for storage, cloud or Nas.
BTW it is very friendly to have a Nas at home if you have many computer / os

yes you can but it will bring you back few year ago... when you turn the computer on and then go to take a coffee.
