Samsung today outted a pretty awesome volume sized version of the 980 EVO, as it can hold 4TB of data. The Samsung 4TB SSD 850 EVO uses their latest 48-layer vertical stacked NAND.

From the looks of ti, this drive uses eight 2 Tb stacks managed by the S4LP052X01-8030 triple-core controller. The drive offers your standard SATA 3 performance with up to 540 MB/s reads, with up to 520 MB/s writes (sequential) add up to 98,000 IOPS sequential reads, with up to 90,000 IOPS sequential writes.

SATA, of course, is the key word here. Samsung has been shipping a near 16TB drive for months already, but that drive runs on the server- and workstation-focused SAS interface. The 850 EVO's SATA interface and 2.5-inch form factor make it an ideal solution for consumer desktops. The only form factor listed is 2.5-inch SATA 6 Gb/s interface. The drive receives a 5-year warranty. The Samsung 850 EVO 4 TB is priced at US $1,499. While expensive, the price works out to less than $0.38 per gigabyte, which is about par for course in SATA SSD territory.
