Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultra-curved 49-inch 'dual QHD' gaming monitor

Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultra-curved 49-inch 'dual QHD' gaming monitor

Yeah, this one is sexy to look at. Samsung's new 49-inch monster, the Odyssey G9 UltraWide VA screen has a refresh rate of 240 Hz, a resolution of 5120x1440 pixels and a 1000R curvature. The Odyssey G9, will become available along with 32-inch and 27-inch Odyssey G7 models.

The Odyssey G9 isn’t the first curved gaming display from Samsung, nor is it the first 49-inch one, or even the first at such a high resolution (that honor goes to last year’s CRG9). But the Odyssey ups the specs in nearly every way: while the 5120x1440 resolution and HDR1000 rating are the same, the new screen offers twice the refresh rate, at up to 240Hz, a even quicker 1ms response time, and support for both AMD’s FreeSync 2 along with newly added Nvidia G-Sync compatibility.

When looking at curvature ratings, the "R" stands for radius, and the number preceding it is the measurement in millimeters. So, a 1000R curvature means it has a curved monitor radius of 1,000mm. The lower the rating/measurement, the more pronounced the curve.  It's the first "dual quad high definition" (DQHD) display with a 5120x1440 resolution to sport an ultra-fast 240Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time.

It's built around a VA panel that uses quantum dot technology and boasts an eye-searing 1,000 nits brightness to bring HDR content to life (Samsung hints at it being DisplayHDR 1000 certified). Cheaper options will be launched in the Odyssey line, such as the CTG7: a 27 "or 32" screen with 2560x1440 pixel resolution, a refresh rate of 240 Hz, DisplayHDR600 certification and support for FreeSync / G-Sync. Samsung has yet to announce a price or release date for either display, but expect something 1000~1500 USD.

"but expect something 1000~1500 USD."

Ain't gonna happen except for top G9 ultrawide which is special. G7 monitors should be priced 500 and 750 according to their size and specs.

I don't know about that curve. I like that the curve on my Acer X34P is barely noticeable. I feel like this would be so distracting
