Samsung launches SD850 new 27 and 32-inch Monitors
Samsung is launching the SD850 series monitors which will become available in two models, a 27 and 32-inch version. Both screens will get a WQHD-resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. The S27D850 will get a pls-panel, the alternative S32D850 has a va panel. Samsung clams 350cd/m2 brightness for the S27D850 and 300cd/m2 for the S32D850.
The contrast ratio is for the 27"-monitor 1000:1, for the 32"-model 3000:1 Both monitors have displayport 1.2, hdmi 1.4 en dvi-dl as well as four USB 3.0-ports and an audio-interface. Both screens can rotate, are adjustable in height and have a picture by picture mode.
The S27D850 will cost 599 EUR and the S32D850 699 EUR.

That's what I was thinking. I don't see why most monitor manufacturers stick to the same sized panels. TV sizes vary HUGELY with the same resolutions so I never understood why monitors didn't have a little play with the same thing...

I love my Dell U2711 IPS, but I sure wouldn't mind if it had 32 instead of 27"... I'd lose the high pixel density but some more AA would compensate for that, I'm also curious about the response time on this. 2560x1440 is a sweetspot resolution for years to come imo.

I really like this move to wider and wider screens as our eyes naturally see more on the horizontal plane than vertical. I really want bigger screens though if we're moving toward more and more pixels. Energy efficiency would be the next most important thing.
