Samsung Gives Aaway Far Cry 3 with 250 GB Samsung 840 SSD on Black Friday

Samsung announced today that for a limited time over this Black Friday weekend, its new 250 gigabyte (GB) SSD 840 solid-state drives will be available at a special discounted price and will include a download of the new "Far Cry 3" video game from Ubisoft Entertainment at no additional cost.

From Black Friday through Cyber Monday (11/22 – 11/26), or while supplies last, consumers will be able to purchase the 250 GB version of Samsung's SSD 840 drive for just $169.99, $20 less than the usual minimum advertised price. They also will receive a code enabling them to download the full PC version of "Far Cry 3," normally priced at $59.99.

Designed for cost-conscious consumers who still want outstanding performance, Samsung's new SSD 840 drives offer a SATA 6.0 gigabit-per-second (Gb/s) interface and triple-core MDX controller, while using economical triple-level cell (TLC) Toggle DDR2 flash memory. They offer blazingly fast random read speeds – up to 97,000 input-output operations per second (IOPS) and sequential read speeds up to 530 megabytes-per-second (MB/s) – as well as longer battery life, cooler, quieter operation and improved reliability compared with conventional hard disk drives.

"This limited time Black Friday offer allows consumers to dramatically increase their PC's performance at an unbeatable price," said Mike Abary, Senior Vice President, Consumer Business Division IT Product Marketing, Samsung Electronics America. "Combined with the free download of Ubisoft's "Far Cry 3," there's no better, more affordable way to experience the unbelievable speed, energy efficiency and durability of solid-state storage."

"Fans of 'Far Cry 3' will be rewarded," said Geoffroy Sardin, chief EMEA sales and marketing officer at Ubisoft. "The added performance of Samsung's new SSD 840 drives will allow gamers to make full use of the game's open 'sandbox' environment, which allows unprecedented long-range gameplay and full tactical freedom in a world of beautifully realistic settings."

Published by Ubisoft Entertainment and developed by Ubisoft Montreal in collaboration with three other Ubisoft studios, "Far Cry 3" is the latest installment in the company's popular Far Cry series, which has sold more than 8 million units since its first release in 2004. "Far Cry 3" allows players to assume the role of Jason Brody, a tourist stranded on a remote tropical island chain in the grips of violent conflict between crazed inhabitants. As he seeks to escape, Brody finds himself in unexpected and dangerous situations on the outskirts of civilization, where he is forced to take action in order to survive.

Samsung's 840 family of SSDs builds on the success of its acclaimed 830 series SSDs. The new drives' proprietary controllers and firmware, along with their leading-edge NAND flash memory technology, deliver exceptional performance and value, as well as unrivalled energy efficiency. Samsung, unique among SSD manufacturers, engineers all of its components in-house. This allows it to meticulously fine-tune its hardware and software for enhanced reliability. In addition, Samsung's newly redesigned Magician 4.0 diagnostics and management software keeps the drives running at their peak.

Samsung SSD 840 drives are available at major retail and online outlets in capacities of 120 GB, 250 GB and 500 GB. They are also available with optional upgrade kits including mounting brackets, USB cable and SATA cable – for easy installation in desktop or laptop PCs. That's a hell of a steal. Will definitely be hitting up this deal, thanks! Perfect timing considering my OCZ Vertex 2 just took a crap the other day.
