Any decent m.2 drive 1TB or above will work with Directstorage, download the latest xbox gamebar and it will tell you if your drives are directstorage supported or not, directstorage specific products are just marketing hype, most decent ssd's will support it.

I've not been following direct storage but will it work only with xbox store games or it will work with the Steam version of games supporting it?

The assumption is If developers decide to include support for directstorage in their game then it should work in Steam as well as Xbox Store as it's part of DirectX however this is just an assumption we won't know for sure until the first game supporting directstorage is released which currently is Forspoken set for release on January 24.

Its too early imo to get excited over directstorage products and what it can work in will be very limited. Plus the overall cost will be painful.
Once its released + games start to use it and we see what they can really do, then yeah.
Biggest downer is needing Windows 11, I plan on giving that a miss. The whole release of DS is messy.
Its nice to see products coming out though.
Maybe I'll be in a position to try it in a few years.
Atm I'm not seeing any stutter problems but no doubt that will be introduced, lol.
