Sabrent exhibits a heatsink cooler with SSD that fully fill PlayStation 5
Sabrent is developing an SSD heatsink that would entirely cover the expansion slot on the PlayStation 5. The heatsink takes the place of the console's lid that conceals the M.2 SSD. Sabrent plans to market the heatsink alongside its Rocket 4 Plus SSD.
Sabrent shows off an SSD heatsink that has been custom-designed for the PlayStation 5. Although it is still a prototype, the maker has stated that it will be included with their SSDs. It is not yet known whether the heatsink will be sold separately. Using the existing Rocket 4 Plus SSDs with heatsinks in the PS5 is already doable, according to Sabrent; however, the original cover can no longer be fitted. Sabrent has incorporated the cover plate into the heatsink itself with the new design.
Sabrent does not disclose specifics on the cooling performance of their products. It is not obvious whether the unique design has any effect on the performance of the device. Sabrent is the first company to demonstrate a solid-state drive heatsink designed specifically for the PlayStation 5. Other manufacturers have already stated that their SSDs are compatible with the Sony console, which is a positive sign. For example, Western Digital claims that the WD Black SN850 and Seagate claims that the FireCuda 530 models are compatible for use with the gaming console.
At the end of July, Sony released recommendations for upgrading the SSD in the PlayStation 5. It must adhere to specific dimensions, and there are speed recommendations as well. The ability to expand the SSD is presently only available to users of the PlayStation 5 software's beta version. At this time, it is unclear when Sony will make the expansion option available to all customers.
