Ryzen Threadripper to be released with Asetek LCS Mounting kit

Ryzen Threadripper to be released with Asetek LCS Mounting kit

Earlier on there was this rumor that Threadripper processors will be optionally bundled with an LCS kit. These are many core processors and will require proper cooling to be able to deal with the TDP and heat of course. The answer seems to be more nuanced, the kits will be shipped with an Asetek LCS mounting kit.

By including a mounting kit users could use all closed loop water-coolers from Asetek themselves and partners. That would include coolers from NZXT and a part of the Corsair Hydro (H100i v2 en H115i) coolers as well.

The news reaches us through gamersnexus and if true then a lot of popular LCS kits will be able to be used on Threadrippers TR4-socket. And that would save your money reinvesting in a new LCS or heatpipe cooler. It might eb though that the coldplate will not be big enough to cover the entire surface area of the proc, but will be sufficient as the die area is covered.

The new info seems to be on par with earlier information from Hermitage Akihabara who maid the same claim and observation.

For example, a Kraken X62 would fit ...

Good idea, the Ryzen was more or less a disaster with the mounting with the only exception being ASUS for having mounting holes for AM3.

Very smart move - not only does this make the CPU's value go up, but it doesn't alienate 3rd party vendors like I thought it might have.

Hah i said a few days ago "i hope its made by Asetek" because they make some of the best liquid coolers. AMD is doing everything right that Intel is doing wrong.

I never understood why AMD didn't manage to keep the cooler mounting the same between AM3 and AM4. Intel has managed to do that for years between a multitude of sockets.

Anyhow the TR socket is clearly much bigger so any compatibility was out the window anyway, but bundling with a bracket for one specific vendor seems a bit weird, even if it applies to a few more products since they use those components.
