Ryzen 5 3400G & Ryzen 3 3200G Based on AMD Picasso (Gets higher Clock frequency)

Ryzen 5 3400G & Ryzen 3 3200G Based on AMD Picasso (Gets higher Clock frequency)

AMD's new APU generation Picasso for the socket AM4 has showed up in a benchmark database. Twice actually with a Ryzen 5 3400G and Ryzen 3 3200G. The Ryzen 5 3400G thus has four cores and eight threads and operates at 3.7 GHz base clock, Apisak also calls 4.2 GHz for the turbo.

Once again discovered by Twitter user Apisak, the entries go as follows: The Ryzen 3 3200G, like its predecessor, will not offer SMT, providing four threads on four cores. In addition, the base clock at 3.6 GHz is slightly lower than its big brother, which also applies to the turbo at 4.0 GHz. The clock rates of the integrated graphics unit with Vega architecture remain unclear.

The Ryzen 5 3400G is expected to feature the fastest version of Radeon Vega11 with 11 Compute Units (CU) and thus 704 shader processors, as can be found on the Ryzen 5 2400G. For the Ryzen 3 3200G everything looks like Vega8 with 512 shaders.

Picasso is a die shrink from existing Raven Ridge at 14 nm towards 12 nm similar to Zen+ instead of Zen. The refined production brings with it, as expected, slight increases in clock speed. A really new architecture in the form of Zen 2 will introduce the already manufactured in 7 nm Matisse CPUs without graphics unit. These will also appear in the product family Ryzen 3000 for the socket AM4 as well as for servers (Rome) in the Epyc family. For Matisse, AMD recently confirmed a market launch in the third quarter. These Picasso APUs could appear earlier. The entries can be found at SiSoftware.

AMD's naming scheme is getting really confusing.

Btw. It would be nice if they squeezed in a couple more Vega CUs in there. More efficient process should allow that, power-wise.

I suppose AMD is happy with an iGPU as long as it's more powerful than Intel's iGPU. Otherwise AMD would likely wish for customers to rather buy a separate video card since they make the GPUs for those as well. If an APU iGPU was too powerful, it would remove the market for the likes of Radeon 560 almost entirely.

This is not the true zen2 core.

If I'm reading the news correctly it's basically zen+.
