Rumor: Zen 3 sees yet another IPC Significant gain

AMD is paving on that processor road hard. The recent Ryzen 3000 series processors have seen a pretty bump in nice instructions per clock (IPC) improvement wise that is, and that is about to happen again with Zen3 (Milan).

The rumor that a core would get 4 threads seems to be dismissed though, however, the IPC increase would get an extra boost, at the very least 10% is plausible A report at redgamingtech.com, citing a "very good" source. With Zen 3 aka Milan (AMD’s new 7nm+ node process), there would not only be an infusion of Zen 2. There are changes compared to the current architecture. Previously it was also mentioned that the frequencies of some engineering samples have increased by 100 to 200 MHz. It is not yet clear whether this is due to an improved 7nm process from TSMC or improved processor architecture.

How much truth to the current claims is on it, will have to show yet. The information should be treated with caution. Before Zen 3 even enters the stage we'll first need to see the current line of Zen 2 line-up even finishes. yes, that Ryzen 9 3950X.

I hope this is actual IPC gains and not overall performance gains. If that is the case and we see a 10% IPC gain with say a 5% clock boost then the next Ryzen generation will be amazing!

As long as these CPUs are compatible with latest X570 motherboards they might be an upgrade option. If it’s new motherboards again then forget about it for me anyway.

It is already known that Ryzen 4000 series will work in X470 and X570 boards with future BIOS updates.

Actually, I think AMD said that this gen will be the last on the AM4 socket it is 7nm tech and not 7nm+ and I think it will require a new socket.
