Rumor: Sony doubts there will ever be a PS5

Game developer Lorne Lanning from the Oddworld game series made note of a rather sizable remark, during a private dinner prior to an actual interview Sony CEO Shuhei Yoshida answered a question about the PS5. Albeit an 4K Ultra HD update to the PS4 is pending (the PS 4.5 with NEO mode) there might never be a PlayStation 5.

It's a bit of a confusing story really, but the question 'what would a Playstation 5 be like in the future' was answered by Yoshida in a pre-discussion prior to an interview with the game informer show. Apparently at that point during dinner Yoshida answered with an 'You mean if'; as in Sony has not decided yet if there ever will be a PlayStation 5. Lanning made the comments on the Game Informer Show (as spotted by excellently monikered NeoGAF user generic_username), where he said he asked a question about the possible future console ahead of an on-stage interview between the two:

"I said, 'well, what does the PlayStation 5 look like?' and he said 'you mean if'. [...] I said 'are you willing to say that on a stage?' and he said 'yeah, it's an if'."

What seems a little weird is that in the formal recorded interview Yoshida did not answer the same question as the very same questions was not asked. Apparently the pre-interview dinner discussion has taken place before there where even rumors of the PS 4.5 / NEO. This improved model will be released later this year.

To be continued as this story can go so many ways as we feel it's extremely doubtful that PlayStation brand would cease to exist. Perhaps it was a remark taken out of context.
