Rumor: Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti could have more Graphics Memory than ever

Rumor: Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti could have more Graphics Memory than ever

Nvidia might be significantly increasing its graphics memory with new graphics cards. Models with 8.0 GB of VRAM appear to be almost undersized compared towards 24 GB for the flagship product.

As we get closer towards the NVIDIA Ampere announcements more rumours and details that to gather up. We try and stay clear a few massive rumours, however some we just cannot ignore.  Current chatter on the web indicates VRAM quantities for these cards that we have not yet seen with gamer graphics cards just yet. As stated, you can expect a release on September 17th, in about five weeks so that's a very strong rumour. The official announcement would be / could be planned eight days in advance on September 9th.

What models can we expect? Well, we still do not have confirmed naming, so we assume a 3000 series, the specs now build up to be so with two possible combinations in VRAM for the more high-end SKUs:

Geforce RTX 3080 Ti 24.0 GB video memory Release: Second half of September
Geforce RTX 3070 Super (less VRAM) 8.0 GB video memory Release: Second half of September
Geforce RTX 3080 Super (less VRAM) 10.0 GB video memory Release:mid-September
Geforce RTX 3070 Super (more VRAM) 16.0 GB video memory Release: still unknown
Geforce RTX 3080 Super (more VRAM) 20.0 GB video memory Release: first half of October
Geforce RTX 3060 Super 8.0 GB video memory Release: still unknown

As you can see, a mainstream 3060 would start at 8GB, the flagship model would see 24 GB of VRAM. double entries are GPU codes that could end up with VRAM doubled/halved. Everything is still based on rumours from the typical respective websites and youtube channels. The VRAM numbers, do seem off and abnormal. Why? Because it is expensive to implement, not likely needed anytime soon for gaming and it builds up the bill of manufacturing, while we can image that NVIDIA would like to keep their prices down this round. If you ask me, I would expect the flagship product to have half of what is rumoured, 12 GB for the 3080 Ti, 10GB for the 3080 and 8 GB for the 3070.

What do you think about the latest rumors about the amount of video memory in Nvidia's new graphics cards are realistic? Feel free to write it in the comments.

I'd be happy with somewhere between 12 and 16gb. I'm not sure what the future holds but, at this stage that is probably overkill as it is. Won't say no to more as long as the cost isn't prohibitive.

If this turns out to be true then first you have to upgrade you wallet to pay big money for these upcoming cards.
I recon someone is mixing up leaks and infos with nVidia Quadros.
Me personally wouldn't think this is the case and nVidia becames Santa Claus with the new generation of it's VGAs and gives us massive amount of vram.
I wish I was wrong.

I just want this gen to do 4K (or more) 90Hz+ efficiently. So I can finally get a Laptop and do 1080p 14" 75Hz+ with less heat and energy.

The Asus G14 ROG with Ryzen 4800HS + RTX 2060 seems amazing already. CPU is already there with 7nm and 8(16) cores, now I want to see what mobile GPU can be added in the future to improve this laptop

Well if they can't it would be extremely disappointing. AMD has basically said they are going to disrupt 4k gaming and the 2080Ti is already a very capable card at that res.

4k gaming is overrated - it makes sense only on a screen larget than 35inch. 1440p is still the perfect middle-ground. Slap on top of it upcoming ray-traced titles and any upcoming GPU most likely won't be able to handle even 60fps on 4k + ray-tracing.

A similar situation is with those 13inch laptops with 4k screens - 99.9% won't be able to see the difference between 1080p and 4k at that scale - but "muh screen size"....
