Alright, this one definitely falls into the category speculation. We've discussed the Core i7 6950X 10-core version broadwell-E processor a couple of times already, now the pricing is under discussion. Rumors suggest that the 10-core 20-thread 6950X model will cost $1500 USD.

Typically the most high-end E class processor always was 999 USD. The rumor originates from overclock3d, however they do not name any reason or source where the priced is based off. Then again, such an increase would not be surprising given Intels position in that segment of the market.

The good news, you do not have tu purchase a new motherboard. Broadwell-E will be tied to the X99 chipse, as these processors will be tied towards socket LGA2011-v3. That would be good news for X99 owners as only a BIOS update will be required to get the new processors supported.

Four models Broadwell-E processors will be released, the  i7-6950X, i7-6900K, i7-6850K and i7- 6800K. That Core i7-6950X thus is the flagship CPU. X is Extreme with totally unlocked multipliers and voltages, the K models are more or less the same with a slightly lower voltage ceiling. All models will get some Turbo (dynamic clock frequency) allowance as well. To date it is unknown when the new processors will be released.
