Rumor: AMD Radeon RX 6700 will arrive with 12GB of GDDR6 Graphics memory

Rumor: AMD Radeon RX 6700 will arrive with 12GB of GDDR6 Graphics memory

AMD just released its Radeon RX 6800 series graphics cards, but obviously, a Radeon RX 6700 is in the making as well. A rumor popped up on the web indicating that the Radeon RX 6700 will be based on a NV22 XT and NV22 XTL GPU.

The AMD Navi 22 silicon would get 40 Compute Units, times 64 is 2560 shader processors, the same cores as we see in the Radeon RX 5700 XT but with the RDNA 1.0 architecture. The Radeon RX 6700 could be configured at 2304 Stream Processors, which is the same number of cores present in the Radeon RX 5700.

Tied to 12 GB of VRAM, the two cards will have a rather limited 192-bit memory interface but we expect some sort of L3 cache in the GPU here as well, as RDNA2 has that as a marker on its architecture. Power consumption would be about 186 to 221W for the XT and between 146 and 156W for the common. The info originates from Patrick Schur, considered a 'reliable source' for leaks.

These GPUs would be announced in January.

I'm worried about the low stream processor core count, even though I kind of expected it. If it's the same as with 5700 (XT), how much more performance can we expect? Is it mainly from the clocks? But since the power consumption is quite low, I can't imagine the clocks being at 2.5GHz. I guess the reviews will tell the truth. It's not going to match 3060 Ti in RT, I reckon, so the traditional work performance better be higher for the card to be a viable choice! Of course if 3060 Ti ends up costing more than 500 euros and thus being automatically out of the question, 6700 (XT) will look a whole lot better, unless they are also absurdly expensive.

The big issue is indeed the high prices. Even without the stock shortages, for the middle class GPUs to be $400-500 is too much, they should be under $400. If that wasn't enough now we have these crazy times and not even the already high $400 MSRP price of a 3060 Ti will be kept. They will be over $500+, like we already see the 3070 not being $500, but $600+ in most of the world... The same goes for Radeon cards, although the price gouging is a little less, still they cost more than MSRP.

Not sure if these cards were intended to be used with RT. You are correct that core count might be an issue, not just for RT but also when there is a DLSS solution which would share the same resources.
