Rise of the Tomb Raider might get DirectX 12 PC patch

Rise of the Tomb Raider might get DirectX 12 PC patch

Some media are reporting that Rise of the Tomb Raider might get an upgrade towards DirectX 12 through a patch. It definitely is not the first time thus rumors pops up, chances are it's true.

It would be interesting to see how the game would run with DirectX 12 alright. The info right now is that Nixxes (the Dutch company that ports the game to PC)  would be planning an update to the game that would enable a new renderer (DX12) as wel as adding new content.

The interesting part here is that a "DX12.dll" library is already in the current folder which was added with the last patch. For DirectX 12 you will need a Windows 10 install as well as a compatible graphics card of course. That would be NVIDIA "Kepler" and "Maxwell" GPUs, and for AMD Graphics CoreNext 1.1 and 1.2 based graphics cards.

Look like Nixxes will also add support for NVIDIA’s TXAA anti-aliasing option (currently supports FXAA, SMAA and SSAA). Our guess is that a future patch will also add NVIDIA’s TXAA. It also seems that NVIDIA’s VXAO will be added to the game, both Nixxes and NVIDIA have not commented on this yet.

if you open the thumbnail below you'll notice "Enable DirectX 12" in the menu. Right now is closes the application though.

GCN 1.0 i.e. > HD 77xx , > HD 85xx should also support DirectX 12
And even Fermi based Geforce 400/500 cards are said to be "compatible".

I am eager to see the performance comparison between DX11/DX12 in this game, should the patch arrive. I am also eager to see how many DX12 features they'll implement.

Considering DX11 in this particular game is single threaded failure, DX12 can be salvation or show of incompetency.

Yeah but Fermi is still waiting for DX 12 enabled driver. We just got wddm 2.0 recently.
