Reviews: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X and 3970X

As AMD opens up a can of performance that is just baffling, we have two more reviews to offer to you today. These are crazy times in the desktop processor landscape. CPUs with 24 to even 32 processor cores are slowly becoming the norm. AMD just released their 3rd generation of Threadripper processors, based on ZEN2 cores the performance is just staggering in each and every way you look at it:

According to Anandtech, 3970X pretty much trashes Xeon W-3175X, while costing $1000 less.
Heck, even 3960X beats it in most tests, while having less cores.

That CPU and platform is pretty much EOL now.

We have a new king!!! The MT numbers are simply ridiculous and make everything else feel small... The only downside is the power consumption. The best CPU for those who can take advantage of all that firepower because for someone like me it´s just useless...
Anyway congrats for AMD for releasing this beast and beating Intel!

Great review as always!

  :eek:I know one of the reason why this is so powerful in workloads
check out the insane memory/cache speed difference between my 9900k on an asrock taichi ultimate and this monster
EDIT: apparently AMD has that advantage since previous threadripper and Ryzen 3000 I just never checked those numbers until recently, still this gen is even faster crazy

I hope you won't mind me direct linking your review screenshot on these forums Hilbert it made for an easier comparison
Please excuse my "spam" it's like I get my 1st car all over again :D

My 2 years old cpu.... Still pretty good :p

I'm really curious about the power consumption figures, and how those relate to the specific motherboards/BIOS revisions used. The figures I see here are in line with what Hardware Unboxed got, and they also got pretty amazing gaming performance, while Gamer's Nexus has much more frugal power consumption and more expected gaming performance.

Hot Damn...
I think this launch deserve a new comparison:

Man this illustration pretty sums up whenever I visit that site XD Lots of intel sheeps still finding things to nitpick this Great Beast XD. Thus for anything tangible and real review I always check this site before checking the other XD.

All I can say is that this is a kind of foreshadowing of what's to come anno 2020 XD.

If I really had the funds, I will buy this piece of real technology so I can ran some dedicate lots of cores for Nicehash (CPU mining) and reserve at least 6 cores for gaming XD and 4 cores for LD Player (Android Emulator for Kings Raid game) - ah.... I already had a vision of what kind of workload I will employ should I have this awesome CPU..
