Review: Zotac GeForce GTX 980 Ti AMP! Extreme

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 07/02/2015 08:52 AM | source: | 44 comment(s)

Join us as we  review the fastest of them all, we benchmark the new Zotac GeForce GTX 980 Ti AMP! (Extreme edition), the graphics card is HUGE (literally) and it comes factory overclocked towards an entirely new level. Combined with the default goodness the GTX 980 Ti has to offer like the 6 GB graphics memory this product just oozes unadulterated raw gaming performance.

Nice review! First time posting, been prowling the site for years though lol.

Hilbert, wouldn't it be better if you redid the G1 Ti review with different OC software if possible? (Not sure if there are any other OC software that supports it yet other than OC Guru II)

Because its score is clearly inflated, not only in 3dmark, but all the games as well, it makes it look like the superior card when it clearly isn't. I think it would be fair to retest that card with Afterburner when/if it's possible.

It could even be the bios that's been tampered with, but that G1 that you have is clearly over performing for some reason. Gigabyte is playing the sneaky card!

On a side note, I pre-ordered the Galax Hof Ti in my country, excitement extreme! Will you be reviewing it in the future?

Not really, I have the G1 and without OC Guru installed at all it boosts to 1380/1367 mhz which already faster than any card so far. Even faster than this card. With OC Guru installed and OC mode enabled it boosts to 1418 mhz. It looks like OC Guru is applying a +38Mhz overclock on the core in OC mode. I don't think they are being sneaky, they are just applying an officially supported overclock.

I don't think its a bad thing, if it comes with the card it supported by the manufacturer 100%.

Could other G1 users kindly confirm this? Because officially it's clocked at 1190/1291mhz in OC mode

I have the distinct feeling you are Oj, who was banned. Pretty much the same IP region.

So again, the G1 Gaming review perf results stands as they are. I can measure over and over again (which I did), but the results remain pretty much the same. While I agree, there is an offset in perf that can run up-to 5%. It only happens when running OC mode and with OC Guru II software activated. Basically from what I have seen, the dynamic clock is going a hint higher creating some extra perf over the competition. Since the feedback was so harsh I simply decided to not include the G1 results for comparative materials. Also a new policy, we will no longer be running OC software for baseline results in the reviews anymore. We'll follow the original BIOS clocks. But I can tell you that from the feedback I got from Gaming G1 owners, they are happy people.

Anyway, this thread is not about the Gaming G1. So back on topic please.
