If you have not done so, you may want to change the thermal paste on that 970.

Might then make sense to see if a new GPU fits your system well. If you plan to use it in a new build down the road, then might be wise to prepare yourself for the next console generation...)

Yaeh been there done that . (Paste changed for thermal grizzly and cleaned out all of the dust)
It works most of the time but any demanding game and it freezes up.
Tried it in a Friends pc and the same problem.

Heres hoping rx 5600 is futures proof, 5500 is a bit to slow futures proof wise.

I’m glad I got a 1070 too. Been nearly 3 years already. Almost went with a 480 because it was $150 cheaper.

The 4GB version seems to be better bang per buck apart from those odd pesky games where it takes a nosedive.

AMD have not been able to repeat the trick with 5700 and XT here by undercutting nvidia on perfortmance, in effect they fill a small gap in a part of the spectrum which is full of cards. And it's hard to get excited in this area as well.

Hopefully the 5600 / XT will repeat the 5700 trick again at lower cost.

The 1070 will continue to be relevant for another year or two. My laptop has the full fat 1070 in it and it still crushes newer titles at 1080p 100Hz.

Still I'm curious about the 5800xt.

That or AMD needs to work on color compression. It does not seem to hurt the 4-6GB Nvidia GPUs.

I've got a feeling AMD pushed Radeon Boost just in time for the 4gb varient release.
