Is that heatspreader really necessary or is it just for show? I see it gets up to 50 degrees but what does that really mean? Anyone know the operating tolerances for this device?

Those prices look healthier than Samsung 950's. Samsung has had the whole market at its disposal for too long. Maybe 950 was beating this Plextor in most tests, although not all, but the price difference would win me over, provided this drive otherwise isn't causing troubles and is compatible.

Samsung 960 PRO/EVO are coming out very soon, so if I was in the market for such drive I would wait a bit to see what these upcoming drives offer and how they are priced.
